Just A Few More Days
Life is just a “few days” Where does all the time go?
Make no mistake about it. Every life is just a “few days”. If anyone should live a century, he would have only 36,525 days; those who live to be eighty years of age have only 29, 220 days. If you live only twenty- five more years, you only have 9,125 days to go. These figures do not seem to be large when we talk about days. This much is true, that at the setting of every sun we have one day less to live. Fewer and fewer sands remain in the hourglass of time for each of us.
Man “passes like a shadow.” There is no permanency to shadows. They grow shorter in the morning and longer in the evenings. They come and go continually and when they are gone nothing is left to show they have been.
These warnings about the shortness of life are not given to make us sad and sorrowful, but to make us sane and sensible. Today is the day you should obey the gospel. “Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion” (Hebrews 3:7-8). Today is the day for work and service. “Son, go and work in the vineyard today” (Matthew 21:28).
The flood of time is rolling on;
We stand upon its brink, whilst they are gone
To glide in peace down death’s mysterious stream.
